Pilates Studio

  

The goal of Pilates is not to impose universalized standards of posture and movement upon an individual, but rather to help the individual to cultivate the mental awareness and the physical ability to continually adapt to the changing needs of the moment in his /her daily living environment.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is one of the safest and most effective exercise systems available. A well kept secret since the 1940’s Pilates has evolved into a unique workout method used by athletes but also as a rehabilitation tool used widely by physiotherapists.

Although ones experience of Pilates will differ depending on the approach of the studio and its staff, generally studio based Pilates exercises include the use of specialised equipment such as reformer, chair and trapeze based work.

Movements are slow and precise and an emphasis on breathing and concentration leaves participants feeling rejuvenated rather than exhausted. The Pilates exercise repertoire provides some 500 plus exercises which simultaneously strengthen, stretch and massage the entire body. The fluid motions have an added mental aspect, merging action and awareness: the typical mind/body exercise experience.

At FITNESS2428 we adopt the approach of first assessing clients using Pilates based and functional strength movement screens followed by the introduction of progressively graded exercises and stretches specific to the individual. The exercises can be directed toward the treatment of dysfunction in the musculo-skeletal system or prescribed to provide challenging workouts for the most elite athletes.

Why do Pilates?

Clients first attend the studio for many different reasons.

  • Some are attracted to the feel of the studio and indeed the focused concentration provides a sense of peace and mindfulness impossible in the midst of the conventional gym!
  • Many see the value of customised exercises and the close monitoring that ensures correct performance and efficient results; our small class sizes of up to 6 clients ensure close supervision.
  • Most importantly, it is the effectiveness of the Pilates. The improvements in posture & flexibility, the emphasis on a balance of strength and suppleness, health and longevity that has made this exercise system popular.

Who can benefit from Pilates?

Anyone can benefit from Pilates based exercises. Our diverse group of clients represent the effectiveness of Pilates techniques. The studio accommodates trades people suffering low back pain and workplace injuries, amateur and professional athletes from all disciplines, GP’s and specialist physicians. Some clients are experiencing medical conditions including chronic fatigue, obesity related conditions, asthma and postural complaints, and some people just want to move more freely so as to maintain their level of strength and fitness as the years pass!

Whatever ones background , Pilates studio clients develop strong, lean, flexible muscles, improved breathing, reduced incidence and risk of back pain and a more balanced musculo-skeletal system. Achieved through principles of mobilisation of tight areas and stabilisation of weak areas; a state that protects the body against injury and progressive deformity. Clients report vastly improved physical capacities, improved athletic performance, relaxation and the control and elimination of pain.
